It's important that you are well-prepared for the audition, yes. It's more important that you thrive in your desired pre-college program after admittance.

Finding a compatible teacher in the pre-college program

Based on the assessment of your playing, you will be advised about the next steps to take. We will also provide a general timeline that shows how long it will take for you to get fully ready for the audition.

We are also open to providing alternative options other than auditioning for the pre-college program so you can still build a strong musical portfolio and résumé.

One of the important responsibilities we have in the audition preparation process is to connect you to a pre-college faculty who is compatible with you and connect to you as a student, musician, and person. We will guide you to find a faculty for whom you will ultimately audition for on the audition day.

Some pre-college programs require a preliminary video recording as the first stage of auditions. There are different ways to make a good recording - professional recording studios and home-studio recording.

We highly recommend that you record at a professional recording studio that specializes in student (and professional) audition recordings.

Our recommended recording studios:

For Cellists

Once you sign up for a free meeting, my one of associate cello faculty will reach out to you for a 20-min. meeting to assess your playing.

For Guitarists

Once you sign up for a free meeting, one of my associate guitar faculty will reach out to you for a 20-min. meeting to assess your playing.

No fee required.

My associate faculty members and I will have all the support and resources you will need to prepare your best for the pre-college program. In return, we expect all students and their parents for their utmost commitment in terms of following through the curriculum, starting as simple as following the rigorous practicing routines and participating all of the recommended string-intensive programs we offer in my String Clinic.

Keep trusting the process, you will get there without you knowing it!

Student Success Stories

"Since studying with Dr. Kim, I've seen so much growth in my both technical and musical abilities. I've started to become more aware and mindful when I'm playing, thinking from different perspectives. Preparing for Juilliard Pre-College would not have been possible if it weren't for Dr. Kim. I had big dreams and she encouraged them. She provided me with support in every imaginable way. Even though the journey was rocky at first, Dr. Kim molded me into the violinist I am today - the violinist that can thrive at the Juilliard Pre-College."
